Portland Arbor Day 2025

Portland Celebrates Arbor Day in October

Due to our changing climate, Portland’s hot dry summers have made it more difficult for trees planted in April to succeed. By moving Arbor Day to October, we can plant new trees and take advantage of our nice wet winter months to help them get established. We are excited about this change and to provide an opportunity to work with Portlanders to plant new trees and give them the best opportunity to thrive.

Cully Association of Neighbors Land Use/Transportation Meeting

Winston Sandino, Capital Project Manager for the Portland Bureau of Transportation, will join us to discuss a major project in Cully. Starting August 4, PBOT will close the 42nd Ave bridge over Lombard St for approximately two years. PBOT will replace the old bridge with an earthquake-safe span.

The new bridge will accommodate heavier freight traffic and provide greatly improved paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project will cause significant traffic detours for anyone who uses NE 42nd Ave to travel between Cully and Columbia Blvd. The project will also displace several mature trees at the International Grove, a volunteer-planted collection of trees near the south end of the bridge.

Winston will present a project overview and take your questions on traffic impacts, the construction process, and more.

Arrive at 6:00 pm for meet and greet with your neighbors and CAN board members. The official meeting starts at 6:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you!
