Two-year extension for environmental review of warehouse proposal in Sunderland

Portland Permitting & Development opened public input for a land use decision affecting the Sunderland neighborhood. Cully Association of Neighbors recently received a land use decision notice for the Sunderland neighborhood. Sunderland has a small population and doesn’t have an active neighborhood association. CAN occasionally participates in review processes and issues that affect Sunderland to make sure Sunderland has at least some channel for neighborhood involvement.

This land use decision affects a large industrial lot at the former site of the Broadmoor Golf Course. The City of Portland stopped operating the golf course in 2020. Prologis, a real estate trust specializing in warehouses and other facilities for shipping and logistics operations, purchased the site and plans to develop warehouse facilities.

Prologis completed an environmental review procedure in 2021. City of Portland approved the environmental review and specified conditions for future development. Prologis did not build facilities on the property on their original expected timeline, and Prologis now proposes to extend the previous land use review approval for two years.

This land use decision only concerns the applicant’s previously approved environmental review. The city is not directly making a decision on building permits for any future development on the site. If the previous environmental review expires, Prologis and the city may need to go through another review process before development.
