CAN Board Approves Letter Supporting Sacajawea Park Gate Opening
At its June 23, 2026 Board Meeting, the Cully Association of Neighbors (CAN) Board voted unanimously to approve a letter supporting the opening of the gate at Sacajawea Park. All six Board members in attendance voted in favor of sending the letter to City officials.
This decision came after Board members reviewed information from the TLC’s open community meeting (recording can be found here) and listened to perspectives from neighbors both in support of and opposed to opening the gate. We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate in the discussion and share their experiences, concerns, and hopes for the future of the park.
While neighbors held differing opinions on the issue, we were encouraged by the respectful dialogue that took place. One of Cully's greatest strengths is the willingness of neighbors to listen to one another, engage thoughtfully, and work toward solutions that benefit the broader community. We are proud to live in a neighborhood where people care deeply about their community and are willing to participate in these important conversations.
As this process moves forward, CAN remains committed to supporting our neighbors. If and when the gate is opened, we will support volunteer efforts and community-led initiatives that help address impacts experienced by nearby residents. We will continue working with neighbors, community partners, and City staff to help ensure Sacajawea Park remains a safe, welcoming, and accessible space for everyone.
Thank you to all who participated in this process and helped inform the Board's decision. We remain committed to being thoughtful stewards of Cully and supporting a strong, connected neighborhood.
